PORTFOLIO: VIDEO EDITING

"Kwagh-hir" ("thing of magic")

Charles Recher and Marilyn Gottlieb-Roberts travelled deep into the African jungle to record an all-night performance of community theatre by the Tiv people of northeastern Nigeria. Almost all footage was shot in infrared with simple low-light cameras; simple torchlight was the main light source. This clip is an excerpt from their impressionistic documentary.

This short version of the program was presented at the Miami Film Festival in 2006. The full half-hour program was sold to the Nigerian government for presentation in their schools.
